“I have nine estimators using this database at any one time.” The interface between Vision InfoSoft's Electrical Bid Manager and EPIC are awesome. We are always adding new items into our data base from EPIC so we will have a wider more up to date database to work with. The main thing is that our database always stays up to date with the latest prices on the market which allows us to stay competitive in the market place without having under priced or overpriced material items in our estimates. This makes my billing very easy to get out the door and get paid faster because my staff does not necessarily have to know what the part s are used for. I use EPIC's pricing to keep a standard for material costs that I can rely upon when bidding to different markets. EPIC allows me to apply discounts and manage the material costs on a job by job basis. The system has grown over the years and contains 95% of what is needed to estimate any project. We have used EPIC to increase our estimating database three fold as well as managing costs for those items in an effective and efficient manner. They are easy to use and speed up the time to estimate, and increase flexibility to handle alternate pricing or addenda changes. EPIC pricing saves me hours of work by supplying automatic pricing. In day to day items this is not as critical, as local vendors provide those, but when it is down to the wire for bid time, the vast EPIC pricing database is unbeatable. Prices that might have been ball parked are now accurately accounted. The ability to add new materials and assemblies in EBM is very important to my business, and being able to seamlessly link them to EPIC adds to that ability. The e-catalogues provide an extraordinarily large and an easily accessible selection of manufacturers that would be too time consuming and difficult to collect in physical form or even keep up-to-date. Not to mention, the space required for physical catalogues alone would be an issue. But with e catalogues, there is no space required, and updates are available as often as you want them. Simply put, the EBM/EPIC systems are the foundation of all our estimating. All of our work is obtained through their use. On a simple project estimating time is reduced by about 10 to 20%, on a complex job maybe 30%, and on projects with significant last minute addenda changes, 40%. On a tight bid schedule, jobs that might have been passed due to lack of time are easily biddable. The automatic pricing function lowers errors that occur through manual work. The flexibility of the systems allow for easily gaming multiple project scenarios, from alternate or substitute product usage, to schedule adjustments, or manpower ratios.
